Advert Of The Week – Shake It!

30 09 2008

First of all, apologies for the lateness of this post. I have been preparing and recording a very special edition of the WiiDS podcast, to be released this week.

Wario Land: Shake Dimension is one of my current favourite games, if not one of the greatest platformers of all time. With it’s flinging, throwing, shaking and brute strength, Wario powers through the world rather than taking times to gracefully jump from platform to platform like most characters.

Nintendo has made this VERY special trailer to promote the game which uses a lot of clever tricks to express it’s awsomeness. Unfortunately the trailer will not last forever and cannot be embedded in the post, so click here to see the full awsomeness!

Advert Of The Week – Politics

21 09 2008

As it’s currently impossible to turn on the news and not hear about people trying to axe Gordon Brown or the U.S candidates, so this advert seems fitting. While it ma only be a short advert it does a good job at hinting the product, with lines such as “Are you afraid of the gorilla” and “Will your brother be joining your team?”. It manages to get the product across in a humorous and relavent way so gets the thumbs up from me :)

Advert Of The Week – Target Practice

14 09 2008

I love this type of advert. Take a strange game concept and apply it to real life for obscure, yet interesting viewing. This one’s for Super Mario Advance, a remake of the western version of Super Mario Bors 2 (aka Doki Doki Panic + Mario). Like most NEs sequels, Super Mario Bros 2 took a completely different approach to the series, with expansive worlds made up of many screens and vegetable throwing instead to jumping on heads. It’s this vegetable thrpwing idea that the advert picks up on, comparing it to more convential methods of killing. Needless to say, it works very well and is rather funny :P

Advert Of The Week – Warfare

7 09 2008

Who doesn’t like the N64? Who doesn’t like tribal warfare? Who doesn’t like seeing fat men in bikinis? Okay, maybe not that last one… Still, this advert manages to take all these factors and create a brilliant televisual masterpiece.

Advert Of The Week – Legendary

31 08 2008

It’s out last advert in the month of music and this one needs no introduction. So here it is, the legendary song that inspired MILLIONS!

It’s the Legend Of Zelda and it’s really rad,

Those creatures from Ganon are pretty bad,

Octorocks, Tectites, Leevers too,

But With Your Help Our Hero Pulls Through,

Advert Of The Week – Jingle Bells

25 08 2008

Welcome to the fourth Advert Of The Week in our month of music!

Once again i’ve dug up another jingle (quite litearally) for your audio pleasure/displeasure. This time were going back to Christmas 1998 when rewriting licence free festive songs was all the rage. This lead Nintendo to releasing this little Gem as a bunch of teenages lament about their terrible gifts and how they really wanted some N64 games instead. Kudos to them for actually getting it to rhyme this week as well as capturing the festive spirit.

Be sure to come back next week and see our final entry into the month of music. Trust me, it’s going to be legendary… ;)

Advert Of The Week – It kinda rhymes? Right?…

17 08 2008

Another week and another song. This is one of the more recent advertising songs and is accompanied by a rather spiffy cartoon. While I give them credits for trying… the lyrics aren’t the best… At least it explains the game adequately though.

And a 1, a 2, a 1 2 3 4…

*Yeah*

He’s the man of many many faces,

He may be pink but he’s really dangerous,

Every enemy he meets,

Is another man down for kirby to eat,

And He Takes On Their Powers,

*Kirby*

Nightmare In Dreamland

*Kirby*

Nightmare In Dreamland

Eating up the bad guys,

and taking away their powers…

Advert Of The Week – RPG Super Mario

3 08 2008

Welcome to Advert Of The Week in August. As we’ve seen so far, Nintendo made some pretty awsome adverts, but they also made some brilliant/strange songs to promote their games too. Therefore August is musical month where I will be delivering the best tunes to come from Nintendo’s advertising department.

First up is this Japanese advert for Super Mario RPG, feauring a very catchy upbeat song about Mario and RPG’s. However, what really makes this advert deserve a place in the feature is the fact that the song isn’t being sang by anyone, it’s being sang by a trio of Piranha Plants! It’s worth every second of viewing time so here for your enjoyment… for one week only… Polly and the Piranhas singing RPG Super Mario.

Advert Of The Week – Rubber Banding

27 07 2008

Time to quickly add in Advert Of The Week before midnight, thus keeping to my schedule :) This week i’ve chosen a Japanese advert for Mario Kart Super Circuit. Not only does this advery look pretty, with its cartoon race, but also, in its seven seconds of animation, more than any other possible video on the history of the internet, describe Mario Kart as accurately as possible. Need I say more? Just watch and i’m sure you’ll be able to recall countless moments like this.

Advert Of The Week – Culture Advanced

20 07 2008

Another classic advert for you this week, this time from the realms of the Gameboy Advance. Like all great adverts it looks pretty, has style and tells you absolutely nothing about the product ;)

I love the mixture of classical music, an operatic setting and monsters causing havoc. On top of this you’ve got flaming arrow strings, head slicing cymbals, and conductors baton thunder. It really is a theatrical masterpiece. While it may be a masterpiece, it doesn’t do so well to explain anything about the game, other than the fact there’s monsters. In fact, the name of the game is displayed for less than a second! Still, it’s a great watch so enjoy :)
